I found somebody else's photo, and decided to give it a try. I am really into sunsets this morning. However, this one tickled my memory from about 33 years ago. That is REALLY tickling my memory.

What a beautiful way to end the day!! Of course it is 9:10 in the the morning, but I can dream. Well, I have discovered Flickr, and find I really like it. It is very easy to navigate, and to load your pictures. Right now my biggest problem with this program is remembering all of the logins and all of the passwords. Before I started this journey, I had a hard time remembering all the pass words for work, now I am in overload with passwords and logins.....
I am wondering about privacy again, though. I understand I can restrict the people who see my stuff, but I am very private, and don't want anyone hacking into my stuff. (Although, I guess they would have to be desperate, for if they wanted to waste all that energy and time in hacking, they would probably pick a more interesting site.)
I was wondering if you can post more than one picture in an entry. Hmmm.... I might have to do some more investigating.

Well, after going back to review and make sure that I had posted all the blogs that needed to be posted, I found I had missed this one. Actually, it was kind of good that I missed it, for after going through the entire lesson, and then revisiting technorati, I found it made a lot more sense. I used the tag of cooking, and stumbled upon a lot of sites, and I guess, personal blogs. I found it was much easier to navigate around this time. I guess I need to do it a couple of times, in order for it to penetrate my mind. I am also finding that blogging is coming much easier. I seem to be able to find this site much faster, and from different access points. It is all good, but just very slow going.

LibraryThing

Well, I finally grasped something, but only after reading someone else's blog which had 2 comments on it. It was the comment that lit the lightbulb. I read through the entire explanation of LibraryThing. I understood it, but didn't grasp any application. Then when I read Bobbi's comment-it clicked. Why not use it as a catalog for books that I already own. This would be very helpful, if I kept it up, for I like to collect Recipe Books, but forget if I have already purchased one. Sooo, now I can inventory them. Neat. I could do this in word also, but it would not be available away from home. I like this!
I found it was very user friendly, and I liked this too.
Are you able to have 2 accounts, one for your current inventory, and one for your (to read list)?

Well, here I am with my head just a spinning, I had a very, very interesting afternoon. I went through the tutorial, and I feel like my mind went through the wringer. I understand that we are talking about filing your favorite spots all in one place. However, that is about all I understand. I don't know how to bookmark anything in the old system, so I really don't know how to tag something in the new one. I browsed the mrrl2 account that was created for us. I think I understand how to click on the tags, and how they would take me out on the internet to the corresponding site. I can see how this would be useful if you visited certain sites on a regular basis. I did not grasp how you would personally tag something or how you would connect it to your address. Therefore, I guess I only get a passing grade today, no kudos.

Myspace vs. My Space

I have been reading, and reading, and reading, to try and understand why someone would want a myspace. I guess it is a generational thing. I am very protective of my privacy and would not want to put my self "out there". However, as a teen or a young adult, I might have found it tempting. I have issues with reliability. So many of these pages are made up. Why do it????

I did quite a bit of the reading on the use of myspace for teens in a library setting. Again, I find the reasoning behind it a little vague. These teens all have individual myspace accounts. Why do they find it necessary or desirable to be on a library site??? I do not understand the draw? So many of them put down that they were looking for dating, serious relationships, and friends. How can this be achieved by a bogus account??? I was also wondering, that when you created a new post on your myspace, does that update all of your "friends" sites at the "myfriends" found on the library pages? I am trying to be openminded, and I really want to understand this myspace concept.

After talking with Bobbi, I found that she is quite protective of her site, and only people that she has preapproved can enter it. That is a sensible safeguard. So, when you have safeguarded your site, do you put real info there. Are these sights hackable? (Is that a word?)

Hmmmm..... after reading this post, I seem to have more questions than answers. Does someone outhere have any answers????

I was fortunate enough to actually ride a wiki wiki bus, and the word has stuck with me for over 30 years. But now, I must rethink what I define as a wiki. I read all of the material and found I have mixed feelings about them. I think they have there purpose. I liked the idea of using them like St. Joseph public library did, the connection between the booklists and the catalog. I also liked the fact that you could link to many related topics on the internet. However, at the same time, I felt that outside contributions were limited. Soooo….is it a true Wiki or is it a web page? Or is there a difference? I also like the ones where you have a purpose, be it to collaborate on editing documents, or doing some initial planning, where you want input. I liked having a collective knowledge base.
Where I have problems with a “wiki” is accountability. If you are just expressing your own opinion, then I can accept that. However, if you are trying to pass your opinion off as fact, then I have a problem with it. I feel they can be very subjective and there might be more “gray” area than I am comfortable with. I am sure that all who participate in these wikis have these same feelings, and one must take them with 2 or 3 grains of salt (maybe more). I did not like the wikipedia at all. I felt there is too much room for error, personal opinion, and “vandalism”. They catch as many as they can, but how many go undetected?

I have a question? My daughters have had to post to a “blackboard” in school. Is this a wiki?

A new day---a new dawn....

Well, here it is 2 days later. I don't really know if I am supposed to add new posts to my old one or not. But, ignorance is bliss.... So I am posting again. My main thoughts about this is what is it used for. I have never been one to keep a diary or write my thoughts down. Is that what this blog is for??? Who else reads these things??? Are we supposed to read all of the other blogs on our page. Do we comment on them, or just read them. When you comment, do you get an e-mail, or just a comment on the page.

I guess this will be the test.... Hmmmm! if anyone is out there and reading this let me know.

Debbie's Deliberations on Blogging

I am what you might call a very late bloomer! I am starting long after the rest of you, and I am starting "later in life" as well. Needless to say confusion seems to be by middle name. I really do not even understand the term blog, let alone all of the other words in these "29 things" to do...but I am going to give it a shot.
As for my first experience, let's just say that I graced Bobbi's doorway a lot this morning. Robin, be glad you are not in the same building as I am. Well, my first obstacle, was getting an invitation to join this illustrious group, but I finally was able to create the account that allows me to write so fluently on this page. The second obstacle for me, will be when I finish writing my thoughts and go to " post" this page. Well, now I must go and visit my "Buddy Bobbi", for I haven't a clue as to which button to push, in order to post this Blog. Do I, Post options, or publish???Hmmmm....Publish it is!
